Erato’s Salon
Monstrosity

For our second gathering, Erato's Salon invites submissions exploring the intersection between desire and monstrosity.

We are interested in works that explore the unstable boundaries through which cultures distinguish the human from the inhuman, purity from contamination, and love from transgression. We welcome works that investigate the desires hidden, displaced, or transformed by these boundaries, and the monstrous figures that emerge when they begin to fail.

What form does desire take when it cannot be openly expressed? How does desire change when it cannot be openly lived?

What becomes im/possible when a person, body, or way of loving is called monstrous? How does being called monstrous change what desire becomes?

We welcome poetry, experimental writing, sound art, live performance, ritual action, lecture-performance, film, movement work, fashion intervention, theoretical presentation, multimedia installation, and hybrid forms difficult to classify.
Please submit project proposals in PDF form, limited to two pages per project.
